Rights group in Bangladesh protest $1bn IMF Loan and its conditionality

On April 19th, thirteen right based  civil society organizations led by EquityBD, protested the government plan to  take a 1 Bn USD loan and fulfil its conditionality. They urged the government  not to take the loan as such  conditionality, especially money contraction and  VAT expansion, are anti  poor and anti country.

African civil society drafts key messages to fourth high level forum on aid effectiveness

African civil society organizations met in February to discuss their key messages to the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectivess in Busan, Republic of Korea, in November/December. Effective use of development aid is crucial in Africa, where nearly 50% of the population lives on less than USD 1.25 per day.

African CSOs recently met as part of the process for preparing for the next High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan. Key messages for African governments and other stakeholders were developed in this meeting and will be shared in due course.

46 civil society leaders, representing regional and national networks across 18 countries in Africa on 14th and 15th of February, concluded two days of strategy and planning forums that led to the development of key messages and a continental action plan on how to influence the aid and development effectiveness agenda ahead of the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4) scheduled for 29th Nov-1st December 2011 in Busan, Korea.

Update on CSO country consultations on aid effectiveness

The implementation of the Paris Declaration (PD) and the Accra Agenda for Action (AAA)- international commitments on aid effectiveness- is at country level, and different stakeholders- including civil society organizations - are expected to effectively engage their country governments and financial partners/donors. To this end, BetterAid partners IBON and the Reality of Aid Network have been organizing a series of consultations with civil society organizations in several countries around the world. These processes are expected to contribute towards strengthening the civil society voice at the HLF4 on Aid Effectiveness in Busan at the end of the year, including BetterAid position papers and advocacy.

The workshops have resulted in increased CSO involvement and engagement with government agencies, donor organizations and other aid actors. See some of the outcomes below:
